Another Lockdown is upon us and to heighten it even more it is in the middle of winter.
However, I do believe the darkest hour is always the hour before the dawn, so while we are waiting for that dawn, I wanted to talk to you about maintaining yourself care while in lockdown.
” Self Care is defined as : Doing the thing that make you feel more like yourself” Sounds easy however it can be hard to figure out what makes you feel like yourself. So how about if we start at the beginning.
Self-care is something that is learnt and it learnt by getting to know you. Jay Shetty would say our identity is wrapped up in what others think of us – or more accurately, what we think others think of us. So, if we are concentrating on what others think how do we get to know ourselves? Part of getting to know yourself is checking in with yourself on a regular daily bases both your thoughts and your emotions. I personally do this by giving myself some alone time by going for a walk. While I am on the walk I would be thinking, feeling wondering and being curious about what is coming up for me both in my heart and my head.
Self-care also requires action. By taking an action you are showing yourself you are worth the effort. So, you need to take an action in your life to get to know yourself getting to know what you like to do, what are your hobbies , do you like to meet friend socialise, do you like to be alone, , do you like to go horse riding, playing sports do you like to read. Remember with self-care it evolves as you evolve. For me I love to journal I have been journaling since I was a little girl writing in my diaries.
A great thing to create is an actual physical self-care wellness tool box. It is physical reminder of what it is you do to make you feel like you.
You take a box decorate it in whatever way you want and place items in it that represent you. Mine contained candles as I love smells and light and also pegs as I love to see the washing hanging on the line on a windy day.
The Reasons we need self-care is because the relationship you have with yourself is the most important one. If you have a good relationship with yourself and you are grounded in what it is that makes you feel you it builds a relationship of trust with yourself . So that when the world or other people seem they are out of control you know that you can trust and ground yourself in that chaos.
Hence why I have wrote this blog to remind you that it’s important to maintain your self care in lockdown because lockdown can feel very unsure and the COVID-19 crisis ,can feel very out of control and you might have family members or friend that are being to you irrational and out of control. Your Self-care will ground you in knowing that no matter what is going for the world or people around you , you can trust yourself and your world.
Remember the only person you can control is you. Maybe in this lockdown part of yourself care is to just get to know you…
