Covid-19 Information

Following government announcements we closed our clinic on March 16th due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and Wwe are happy to announce we are reopening The DMC Clinic on July 7th. We will continue to providing counselling appointments through Skype, Zoom or Phone Call sessions.

Who Are We?

We are a team of Fully Qualified and Accredited Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Trainee Counsellors. If you would like to read more about each member, their qualifications and experience please follow this link to our bio page >>>

What We Offer?

We offer one-to-one counselling for children, teenagers and adults in the Wexford community and during this Covid-19 pandemic it is through Skype, Zoom or Phone Call sessions. Before Covid-19 all our sessions were based in The DMC Clinic premises and a full session was 45 – 60 minutes, depending if a client was under or over 18 years of age. During this challenging time we are offering full sessions and half sessions.

The half session option was something that we discussed as a team as we felt there may be many benefits;

  • A half session may encourage someone who is struggling with their mental health during this time to reach out but are unsure or feel uncomfortable to have an a full session over Skype or phone call.
  • An existing client of The DMC Clinic who feels they are coping well but would like a check in session with their Therapist
  • For a parent of a young teenager or child. We are trained to work with teenagers and children but a Skype or Phone Call session may not be suitable to work with young teenagers or children as some of our work includes interactive play therapy techniques. We would still like to offer our support so a half session may be of benefit to a parent who would like to talk to a professional about their young person who is struggling at this time.

The half session option is only available during the Covid-19 pandemic and for online sessions only.

What is the Fee?

During this pandemic the fee is at a lower rate to accommodate for the challenging and restrictive times. The fee will return to the normal rate in Phase 2: June 8th.

There are two options in the clinic;

Main Clinic for children, teenagers and adults which it is offered by fully qualified and fully accredited Counsellors and Psychotherapists;

  • Normal Fee: €60 per session or €30 per half session
  • Covid-19 Pandemic Fee: €45 per full session or €25 per half session.

Alternatively there is a Low Cost Clinic for adults only which it is offered by newly qualified and pre-accredited Counsellors.

  • Normal Fee: €35 per session or €20 per half session
  • Covid-19 Pandemic Fee: €25 per full session or €15 per half session.

Professional Help

We are only one of many clinics, organisations, charities and groups who have quickly adapted to offer our support through remote and online platforms. If you have already found your professional support or are reading different websites to see what is available and what best suits you then qualifications is something I urge you to keep in the forefront of your mind.

Even though the session style has changed from in person and face to face sessions to Skype or Phone Call sessions, the qualifications needed to do the latter is exactly the same as what is needed to do face to face sessions. If you would like to speak with a Counsellor or Psychotherapist, they will need a minimum of a Level 7 or Level 8 diploma or degree in a specific counselling qualification. There is no exception. This would involve a minimum of 3 – 6 years in a third level institute. And following this continuous engagement in courses and workshops to build up CPD hours (Continuous Professional Development). There is no exception.

Whether you feel you would like to reach out to The DMC Clinic or you have found another professional, all that matters is that you have found someone who you feel can offer you the support you need. Please do not hesitate to ask what qualifications they have, it is your right to do so.

This information does not only apply during Covid-19 or for Skype or Phone sessions. This information applies for all situations when working with a Counsellor or Psychotherapist.

Final Note

We understand that this is an extremely challenging and difficult time for everyone. We need to keep distance to keep ourselves and the people we care about safe but with distance comes isolation and loneliness. With this in mind it is more important than ever to stay connected with each other. Whether it is a conversation from afar, messaging, phone calls or video calls, stay connected.

I have heard many people say how uncomfortable they find video calls but there is nothing more powerful that to see another persons face and hear their voice. And I don’t necessarily mean counselling but to video call family and friends. Video calling during this difficult time will allow you to see that they are well and how happy they are to see you. Video calls will allow you to show each other what you’ve been up to at home and what kind of things you’ve created with all this free time that we never thought we would have.

I think many things will come from the Covid-19 Pandemic and hopefully some of it will be positive change. We have lived in a world and society that has gotten so increasingly busy and full of stress and burn out so maybe we will all learn from our past choices and slow down, appreciate the simpler things and make time to “smell the roses”. Just a thought…

Please take care of yourself and each other,

Ruth and The DMC Clinic Team
